Personal computers & Microsoft are virtually one and the same to a lot of individuals! Whenever we start our computers, almost all of us meet with a 'Microsoft' Operating System, & virtually all of the software that we use originates from the same stable. Throughout schools and colleges globally, Microsoft education packages are plentiful. Launched in nineteen seventy five, by the now infamous Mr Bill Gates, it very quickly completely outclassed the domestic operating system market during the 80's, delivering the initial versions of Windows. This 'software' has developed in to all of the many flavours of Windows operating systems that all of us use today. We have always been provided with a choice of the Windows home-version and the 'Windows' Professional version, with each up-date applying to both Operating Systems. 'Windows' server 2000 superseded the initial Windows 'NT' Server. Then we had Windows Server 2003, with 'Windows' Server 2008 being the newest edition. Since the beginning of 'Microsoft' Professional accreditation, there have been training tracks dedicated to Professional management of the 'Windows' Server Operating-systems.

There aren't very many 'Windows' 'NT' Servers still to be found, although Server '2000' continue to be quite prevalent. It is still early days yet for 'Windows' server '2008', with '2003' continuing it's dominance. This being the case, the principle MS qualifications continue to be heavily centred on 'Windows' Server '2003'. The 'Microsoft' 'MCSE' & 'MCSA' training-programs have changed over time in line with the Servers. At this point, both MCSE '2003' & MCSA '2003' are Microsoft's major Network accreditations. Nonetheless it wouldn't be advised to dismiss 08 training, as to include this too will future proof yourself.

This information undoubtedly implies there is quite a lot to get to grips with when deciding upon MCSA and 'MCSE' training. It is usually a good idea to go over all of your alternatives with an industry expert, before you spend any money & buy what may seem like a bargain course. A number of very expensive courses are not actually of the greatest quality, and yet some affordable ones are extremely good. Cost on it's own is not an effective method of judging a program. You should be looking at how effective the course materials are, just how efficient is the help and support and how accurate are the exam-prep materials?

The MCSE track also offers messaging & security as two specialist tracks. These require either two further MCP exams, or one single additional exam if one of the first seven has been suitably determined. MS have in addition brought out a Server 2008 'MCTS' (Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist) up-date examination for the MCSA (exam 70/648) and for the 'MCSE' (exam 70/649.) We'd suggest you seriously consider including one of the above into your training-package. This will not only future-proof you to a certain extent, but will also offer additional job alternatives.

Even though the 'MCSA' and the MCSE are regularly talked of within the same career track, they are in fact actually quite different. The MCSA (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator) is a certification meant for individuals who wish to build a career in server-administration, networking and senior support jobs. Predominantly the qualification is an ideal basis for a technical systems administrator, who will deal with the functions of operating a fairly small to mid level corporate network. Very well-disciplined men & women who take pleasure in problem-solving and a strong technical-challenge should get a good deal out of this particular work. You can expect a healthy amount of interaction with colleagues, (as a great deal of what you will be doing will involve supporting the network users,) and a mixed working-day.

The 'MCSE', however, is aimed at planning, design and project-management; in other words a rather more senior degree of responsibility. This qualification needs to be seriously considered if your goal is to become a network-manager, a project-manager, a technical or senior administrator, or a Senior I.T. security expert. Personal, creative & leadership abilities can also be covered within this training program, as good 'MCSE' professionals often address an array of personnel and resource-management duties.

There are 4 'Microsoft Certified Professional' ('MCP') exams to sit to qualify at the MCSA grade. There are 3 required core exams, and a fourth elective exam. An extremely practical and completely accepted elective is the 'Comptia' Security+ , which for obvious reasons is becoming very favoured by students. The MCSE consists of 7 MCP examinations, that show the growing importance placed upon organisational Security, systems-planning & network-design.
